Bodrum (Ancient Halicarnassos)

Bodrum

This bustling town, like a fine wine, has great legs. The swinging, singing, dancing town with its bohemian atmosphere is the "hot spot" of the Aegean Coast.

Herodotus (c 485 - 425 BC), the "Father of History" to most, the "father of lies" to others because of his fanciful travel accounts, was born here. The temple of Mauseolus was here, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world. It has a supporting role today in numerous structures around town and particularly the castle built by Knight John as a hospice to/from the Crusades in the 15th century. Just when they completed in 1522 (120 years is short for some places) Suleyman the Magnificant issued an eviction notice - discretion was the better part of valour.

Hand crafted Roman style sandals "Bodrum sandals", have become popular works of art connecting history to modern feet. Bodrum has much more - you must experience her.
